Meghan's Birthday Party in Richmond (Oct.12 -14)

As with the other two children, we wanted to celebrate Meghan's first birthday with our Richmond family & friends, so we traveled back the weekend before her birthday on Wednesday.

Unfortunately Jack came down with a fever on Friday afternoon which put a damper on things. He seemed to rally Saturday afternoon, at least good enough to climb in Pop-pop's tree.

While Jack was busy climbing, Clara went over to Gigi's with Daddy to visit her great-grandmother and Su-su.  She had fun exploring the house and trying on some jewelry.

Still feeling ok, playing upstairs.

But then he took a turn for the worse and fell asleep in the early evening before the birthday festivities.

Nevertheless Meghan had fun in the backyard in her new birthday suit that Nay-nay purchased the year before when it seemed unimaginable that she would ever fit into it a year later. Look at her now!

I tried very hard to get her to look at me, but alas, she would not. She was way more interested in the hose.

I was already planning the comparison shot in my head knowing the pictures that I had of Clara from her first birthday celebration in front of Pop-pop's wood hyacinths.

I seemed to have more luck with the movie than the still frame shot.

The party was a small affair. The Schaeffers, the Zimmermans, and Lucy bowed out so as to not be exposed to Jack's virus, Su-su was taking care of Gigi who was ill at the time, Jack had fallen asleep already, and Meghan was so crabby that we decided to open presents and cut the cake before Pop-pop  even made it home from work. But Gramby and Nay-nay celebrated enough for everyone!

Presents!

Look who's more excited.

Back for a second look.

Cake time!

Happy Birthday, dear Meghan!

No thanks, here you go.

Sunday we stopped in at Tatti & Papa's for a quick visit. Snapped this on the stairs when Barklie was helping Clara corral their cat and Meghan made a break for the stairs.

Chilling in the sunshine on the back stoop.

Only a few days until the big girl turns one!
