Snow Day Part 2

After our surprise snow fall Tuesday morning that ended up lasting all day and subsequent melting that occurred on Wednesday, we prepared for yet another storm of snow, sleet, and freezing rain Wednesday night. We woke up Thursday morning to temperatures around freezing and another winter wonderland. This time the snow mixture was quite heavy, as you can with the weighted branches hanging precariously over the power line to the house.

Our poor wilted bushes!

We got all bundled up and went over to our favorite sledding hill at the Anglican church down the street. The kids had a fun time sharing our neighbor Lucy's sleds.

Meghan takes a turn on the sled that can be steered!

Heavy wet snow makes for a pretty picture on the walk back to our house but there sure were a lot of branches down, including a tree that fell on our fence in the back yard.

Another shot of bushes being weighted down by all the snow.

Our pine tree in the front yard.

Today we were out back working on branch and limb removal. Luckily when everything was cut away, the trunk of the tree was able to be pushed off the fence, and the damage does not seem to be too bad.

Snowflake Day!

Tuesday morning we woke up to a phone call from Wake county saying schools were delayed. This came as a complete shock to us. Then an hour later the ground was covered with snow and school was cancelled. It proceeded to snow all day until around 6 pm with the temperature holding steady well under freezing making the snow nice and powdery. Here we are all bundled up playing in the snow.

It was a really pretty snow, coating all the greenery in the yard.

Clara slipping and sliding!

Wintery wonderland.

Snowball fight in the front yard.

Brec snowballs me in the face. "Film me as I throw the snowball towards you." Famous last words.

Dress Like a Pirate Day (9/19)

September 19th is apparently "International Talk Like a Pirate Day". If you go into a Krispy Kreme store on this day and talk like a pirate, you get a free donut. If you dress like a pirate, you can get an entire dozen glazed donuts free. So we stormed in there ready to collect our bounty.

Waiting in line outside the shop in our pirate garb.

Ella and Trey, Emmy and William were also there for the booty.

Look at all those tasty donuts!

We took the kids to a nearby park and let them have at the donuts and then run it off for awhile. Definitely a good plan.

Labor Day Weekend in Richmond

After the first week of school we visited Richmond for Labor day weekend.

On Saturday  Brec took the children on a Richmond adventure to the Byrd Park Pump House.

Checking out the waterfall at the Pump house.

Surveying the giant smooth rock.

Sliding down the rock.

Next stop Maymont park, investigating the statue.

Then on Sunday Lee had us out to his river house for a day of fun on the Pamunkey River. Daddy & Jack chillin' on the inner tube.

Nay-nay decided to join them. Therefore you know two things to be true, the air temperature must be hot, and the water must be warm.

Both Clara and Jack got a chance to fish for the first time, and Jack actually snagged a catch!

Once the tide cooperated, Lee was able to get his boat in and took our whole family out for a boat ride. It was the kids first time on a motor boat, and they loved it. Even Sydney got to join in the fun!

And at the very end of the day, we got to ski! Second try I made it up for the first time in almost two decades. I've still got it!

And with a killer dismount back at the dock...

Speaking of still got it, Nay-nay got up on the skis her first attempt. Well done, Nay-nay!

Nay-nay rocking the water skis!

What a fun way to unofficially end the summer!
